Cornelis and Daatje Hooijmaaijers Family

This is the family of my grandfather as he was growing up. He is second from the left in the back row. Jacobus (Koos) Hooijmaaijers. I love the beautiful flowers everywhere in this photo and wonder if the building in the background was their home. Several photos of this family contain lots of flowers so I suspect my great grandmother Daatje had a great love of flowers.

Grandparents

I love this early photo of my grandparents. They look so happy in this photo and I know they must have had a difficult life considering my Oma suffered a lot from mental illness.

Journalling: Catharina van Weert (1913-1989) and Cornelius Bartholomeus Adrianus van de Ven (1913-2001) were my maternal grandparents who had 7 children. My Oma suffered from chronic depression and mental illness throughout her life and at various times was hospitalised.
My mother was as the eldest girl at age 14 left to take care of the household because my Oma was unable to do it, until she married my father and they migrated to Australia. My Opa drove trucks and later operated a steam press to support the family.

Family Resemblance

I have scrapped a layout for an Inheritance Challenge featuring my Great Grandmother, Opa, Dad and Brother. I created this layout Created with my Cinnamon Sunday Digital Scrapbook Kit and Stamp Cluster Frames.

I find it so interesting to see how the facial features of my Great Grandmother have been handed down from generation to generation and they are very prolific throughout my Dad’s family. It does look like they are softening somewhat down the generations perhaps by the influence of the mothers of each person. This is the earliest photo I have of someone with these family traits, there must surely be someone before my Great Grandmother, but as yet I do not have a photo. I hope to some day be able to take it back further.

31 May 1968

I have scrapped a layout for the a Family History Telling The Story Challenge featuring my parents. I created this layout Created with my Cinnamon Sunday Digital Scrapbook Kit.

Journalling: My parents married on the 31st of May 1968. They met at a dance and my Mum at first couldn’t believe the stories my father told her about his days as a marine. Nevertheless they fell in love and after getting married migrated to Australia. They left Holland on the 3rd of January 1969 and arrived in Australia via boat on the 4th of February 1969. They arrived in Australia with very little and went to classes to learn English and found jobs in factories so that they could make a life in their new country.
